Commission: Rasheem by medli20 Commission: Rasheem by medli20
Commisson for *MyxPaperxHeart, who requested a pixel of her character Rasheem. It was pretty fun working with a more neutral set of colors. Purples, browns, and greys are some of my favorites <3

Also, my commissions are still closed. Sorry, guys ^^;
Aaaaahhhh I still need to clear out my messages aaaaaahhhhh

Looks good Medli! I really like the bounce effect you use on these sprites as it's pulled off well and really livens up your pixel art and makes it look more three dimensional.
Though it could just be me, but the animation on that left foot looks a little bit off. Looking around I see a few other people have mentioned it too. I guess to me it just looks more like it's kind of shortening/enlongating his knee or shin. Maybe it's just placed a bit too diagonally?
Either way, still really really awesome.

And no, sorry; I don't think I'd have the time to do that. Even if I did, my version of flash is ancient (like, from the late 90s) so I don't think it would be compatible anyway. ^^;

I'd like to offer a criticism if that's okay. It's not that the lower part of the right leg is wrong per se, in fact I think it's a "step"</footjokes> in the right direction. But the motion leads me to expect the thigh to turn and dip in towards his center of gravity, as knees can only bend on one axis. But it stays rigid, because much of the sprite doesn't move, which I think is a larger, more limiting issue here.

I think you could do amazing frame by frame animation. Maybe if you kept details and lighting to a later step, and animated with only 2 or 3 silhouettes of flat colour, to get the actual form across all the frames down first. Then you could use that as a base for animating lighting conditions, secondary motion like hair or cloth, and smaller details. But that's just a suggestion, it's your process. I can say from experience though, that spriting a detailed sprite first and then trying to animate it, is like painting a really detailed face before sketching the rest of the body.

I hope that useful to you

Thanks for the in-depth feedback! That does sound like a really good technique to introduce some more complex animation in my pixel art, but I don't think I'll utilize that much in my commissions, since I only offer "simple" animations for stuff like this. ^^; I'll definitely try it out in some future personal pixel art that calls for more complex movements though, thanks :D

I see what ~FS-XXVII is saying how the boot movement on the left left is a little off. But it still is awesome and nice and smooth ;3;

Yeah, I'm a bit limited as to the kinds of subtle movements I can do with pixel art on a small scale like that, but I'm doing my best to try and find a method that fixes that. ^^;

Thanks a bunch!

Hehe, not a problem. And that's alright :3 I say you either fix it, or you don't XD It won't affect anything major.

That boot movement is a little off (his right leg, to the viewer's left) but overall the bobbing is fantastic.

Yeah, I still haven't figured out how to make more subtle movements for pixel art on such a small scale without having it look a little funny, so movements like slight rotations are a little out of the scope of my current capabilities. I will try to find a more suitable method as soon as I can, though.

Thanks!
